WHAT IS PILATES? The Pilates method is a unique system of mental and physical conditioning designed to promote strength, flexibility, coordination and well-being of the entire body. The technique revitalizes and re-patterns the body to function with control and ease.
HOW DOES PILATES WORK? Working from the core principles of whole body health, whole body commitment and breathing, the Pilates method integrates the entire body into graceful yet demanding exercises. Execution of these exercises requires proper breathing, balanced muscle development, concentration, control, centering, precision and rhythm. Well performed, the Pilates exercises become the vehicle for realizing the full potential of the work. The results of this discipline encompass elements such as self- awareness, efficient movement, coordination, strength, mobility, flowing movement, increased vitality and improved posture.
This movement regimen involves work on the mat, and specially designed apparatus such as the reformer, the chair and the trapeze table. Each piece of equipment offers a specific combination of weight loading and counterbalancing that will enhance the integrity of the muscular and skeletal systems.
